Neil H. Jacoby (1909-1979) was born in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Canada. He received his B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1930, and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1937. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1938, and from 1938 to 1948, he was a professor and administrator at the same university.
